Timberjack 380C

Our primary log recovery machine is a Timberjack 380C grapple skidder(120hp 6 cylinder cummins, 12 tonnes), this particular machine is nicely balanced for the terain we encounter day to day. A wide low stance for stability on the side of a mountain with enough clearance for travel over obsticals, the 380 is comfortable for the operator with a angled seat and steering wheel control, the single arch esco graple is somewhat small for the hardwood operations but if u dont mind going down the mountain with 1 larger log then it does the job effictively and lifting with the single arch is no worries...i can pick up a 5m3 log at the but end and walk away with it no sweat.

the whole hog

As u can see, we do everything involved with logging, felling, snigging and hauling Timberjack skidders, Huff Loaders and Mack trucks, the mack is currently in the process of getting a 19m b-double set up to get arround the transport rules of restricted access.

Saw Chain, Micro Chisel, Super Chisel, Super Guard, 404 or 3/8

So whats the best chain??? My family each has a preference to a particular type for our own personal reasons, My dad swears by Super Chisel(http://www.oregonchain.com/dv/detail_38_72lp.htm) for its smoothness and cutting speed, My brother likes the newer Super Guard (http://www.oregonchain.com/dv/detail_38_72CJCKCL.htm) for its performance and i prefer the durability of the Micro Chisel(http://www.oregonchain.com/dv/detail_404_27.htm) for it ability to handle iron bark and other species which collect dirt and sand in the bark.

That said each of us sharpens differently to our own preference and get around the same M3/chain, unless we are in the mountain iron bark areas and i will generally get a few more m3 from a chain to the others.

The great debate....for the pro logger

Stihl or Husqvarna? tried and tested stihl, portable, well balanced with effective power to weight for an all day carrier or husqvarna, equal to stihl in every way???...some might say otherwise others will argue that its a better saw in every way....lets look at some comparisions
Stihl ms660 magnum: 7hp(5.2kw)-7.5kg http://www.stihlusa.com/chainsaws/MS660.html
Husqvarna 395xp: 7.1hp(5.3kw)-7.9kg http://www.usa.husqvarna.com /node3099.aspx?nid=55967&pid=35105
pretty close in comparision....myself im a stihl person but my brother and father swear by the 395xp so we begin our debates on the pro's and cons of each saw
